East Clarendon drops highest score of season against Kingstree
East Clarendon has relied on a stalwart defense averaging 15 points allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They snuck past the Kingstree Blazers with a 42-36 win. The Wolverines’ offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they’ve scored all season.
East Clarendon’s victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Kingstree, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.
Coincidentally, both will both be playing Mullins the next time they take the field. East Clarendon will head out to face Mullins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Kingstree will host them at 7:30 p.m. on October 25th.
Manning piles up the points against Mullins
Manning came tearing into Friday’s game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Mullins Auctioneers, posting a 33-6 victory at home. The Monarchs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by 27 points or more this season.
Despite the loss, Mullins still got an impressive performance from Kanazzion Bethea, who threw for 146 yards and a touchdown, and also rushed for 67 yards.
Manning’s win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. As for Mullins, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Manning will host Atlantic Collegiate Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Manning’s defense has only allowed 9.3 points per game this season, so Atlantic Collegiate Academy’s offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Mullins, they will welcome East Clarendon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
Cardinal Newman nudged by Laurence Manning Academy
In Friday’s league game, the Laurence Manning Academy Swampcats (Manning, SC) football team edged the visiting Cardinal Newman Cardinals (Columbia, SC), by a tally of 33-26.
In their next game, the Swampcats battle the Ben Lippen Falcons (Columbia, SC) in a SCISA 4A game, on Friday, October 18. Laurence Manning Academy will attempt to better on its 3-4 season record. The Falcons enter the game with a 3-3 record after their 10-6 league win over Heathwood Hall Episcopal (Columbia, SC).
Clarendon Hall trounced by Dorchester Academy
Dorchester Academy Raiders (St. George, SC) followers went home pleased Friday as they saw their football team triumph over the host Clarendon Hall Saints (Summerton, SC), 47-0 in a non-league battle.
With the win, Dorchester Academy advances its record to 6-0 on the season. The Raiders host Colleton Prep Academy (Walterboro, SC) to play the War Hawks in a non-league battle on Friday, October 25. The War Hawks go into the battle with a record of 5-3. Colleton Prep Academy won 30-19 in their recent league battle against Patrick Henry Academy (Estill, SC)
The Saints now own a 0-8 record. They play next when they travel to Greenwood Christian for a non-league battle on Friday, October 25. Clarendon Hall will play a Hawks team coming off a 48-19 league win over Thomas Sumter Academy (Dalzell, SC). The Hawks record now stands at 5-2.
Scott’s Branch takes a loss
After soaring to 58 points the game before, Scott’s Branch was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They were beaten by the Cross Trojans 54-12. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 54-6 defeat they experienced in the pair’s previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2023.
Karmello Jones was his usual excellent self, rushing for 289 yards and seven touchdowns while picking up 11.6 yards per carry for Cross. Jones’ longest rush was for an incredible 87 yards.
Scott’s Branch’s loss was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Cross, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-2.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Bethune-Bowman the next time they take the field. Scott’s Branch will host Bethune-Bowman at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Cross will host them at 7:30 p.m. on October 25.
